White Dish Challenge

This week's table was fun. After Cuisine Kathleen [http://www.cuisinekathleen.com/]   issued a tablescaper's challenge to design a table using only white dishes and one accent color, Pat pulled together one of her favorite dishes from our collection and went to work. She used a light peacock blue placemat as the foundation and played off that for the rest of the table.

The place setting

The napkin ring was purchased as unfinished wood at Michael's and then painted to match

First layer of the place setting by Otagiri is a shell bowl

This stunning shell shaped salad plate follows (say that three times.....oh dear, I know that somewhere up above, my 7th grade English teacher is shaking her head even after nearly 50 years.....Sorry, Mrs. Waters. I know you hated alliteration in a sentence.)

The dinner plate is the same shape

Pat used clear, simple Dollar Store glassware

Votives are the same color as the placemat

One last look
Where it came from:
Light Peacock Blue Placemat - Bed, Bath, and Beyond
White Dishware - "Shell" by Otagiri purchased years ago at a local second hand store
Clear Glassware - Dollar Store
Flatware - from Pier 1
Blue Votives - from Ross
Votive Holders - from Pat's collection
Square Vase, Shells, Star Fish - Michael's
White Napkin - Target
Chiffon Overlay - gift from Pat
Blue Napkin Ring - unfinished from Michael's and painted to match

We will be joining Cuisine Kathleen's "Let's Dish" this Wednesday night for her annual "Let There Be White Challenge":

  2. We were definitely on the same "wave length" for this challenge. I used white and aqua, too! Love the napkin rings that you painted - I like to do that, also. The placemats and the candles are such perfect shades for the table and your white shell plates are perfect for a summertime table!

  3. I am on vacation and didn't have time to join Kathleen for her white event, but I picked one blog to visit. I love the "Shell" plates, and the aqua is a nice compliment. Your post spells summer to me.

  4. Fabulous Shell China! I love the aqua and white with the shell shape. The shells in the clear glass container is a great beach motif. Have a lovely week!

  5. The turquoise and white makes me think of pearls and turquoise, one of my favorite combinations for a piece of jewelry. In fact, those lovely dishes are akin to jewelry for the table. This is beautiful!

  7. Down by the sea shore is what I am seeing from your table. The shell dishes is something I would like to add to my collection. Lovely and soft.

  8. It makes me think of sitting seaside. I love the shade of blue you used here. I also love the idea of your blog. I'm home alone so often since we're empty nesters and my husband travels. I think it might be even more important to take time with the table when you're eating alone. Great inspiration!

  10. Hi Pat and Katie - The first thing I noticed was the stunning aqua blue... and then... how the seashell lines mirrored the lines of the beadboard. Sigh... simply lovely. Hugs, Holly @ coconutheadsurvivalguide
