Academy Awards Celebration Table for One

What a great way to fill an evening - by watching an award winning movie (or one that you think should have won an award) enjoying some fresh popcorn and a soft drink. Pat designed this week's table with the Academy Awards in mind:
Over view of the table - the theme is red and white

The tumbler is "Red Candy Stripe" by Hazel Atlas Glass Co. The other is a high in fructose, laden with calories, bad for you, rots your teeth soft drink but it does have a red and white label (anything for a tablescape.....)

Pat chose the perfect flower vase for a movie night

OK - so this a butter loaded, salt filled. get stuck in your teeth, non-nutritious snack....but slurrrrp!" I love popcorn!

Yes - another secret is out.......I love old movies (so does Pat). Tonight's movie? "Random Harvest" starring Ronald Colman (be still my beating heart) or the comedy/spy Walter Matthau movie "Hopscotch." Pat put the John Wayne movie on the table for fans of his non-Military, non-Western movies. (There probably aren't that many.....only me.)

Tree Frog Table For One

Every once in a while, Pat pulls something off one of my shelves and comes up with some really fun and unique tablescapes. That's what happened today. I challenged her to set a table using a placemat that we have had for a very long time, and in less that ten minutes, she had most of the table together. Her inspiration? It wasn't the placemat. It was:

Donald

Pat used bright colors - Shamrock and Peacock Fiesta

This is the placemat that I challenged Pat with

This very unusual handmade votive holder was a gift to Pat

Pat found matching napkin rings at Bed, Bath, and Beyond

Pat used a green candle on this side of Donald to balance the table

I heard Pat washing something in the sink this morning. She found these rocks in one of my garden beds (table décor can come from anywhere.....)

Valentine for One Tablescape

Valentine table for one??? Contradiction? Misnomer? Paradox? I say, "Why not?" Do what makes you happy......and "playing with dishes" and setting a nice table makes us happy. So, Pat set a traditional Valentine's Day table this week using a gorgeous red vase she bought recently as the inspiration piece.

Flatware is "Grand Colonial" by Wallace

Sorry for a rather dark picture.  But...Yes!!!.....we are grateful for the rainy, dark, dreary weather. It means water. And water means no rationing. (Remember, we live in California where we are going through the worst drought in history.)

Pat used this cute heart shaped plate as the bread and butter plate

Salt and pepper in tiny salt cellars

Olive Green and Purple Table for One

Every once in a while, an unusual color combination can result in a surprisingly pleasant tablescape. This week, Pat put together olive green and purple (yes, it sounds awful, but it turned out very nice......) She found a placemat and went to work.
