Summertime Challenge

Once again, Cuisine Kathleen of "Let's Dish" (http://www.cuisinekathleen.com/ ) has issued a challenge to all tablescape bloggers. This time? Design a table using Summertime Fun as the theme.

What could be more Summer "time" that going to the beach in your VW Bug, soaking up the rays, and surfing the waves? Remember, we live in California. (Of course, it's Northern California with dangerous undertow so you can't do much surfing in the ocean, there's very little flat beach - most of it is boulders or very poor access where there isn't undertow, and if all that is not enough, the area doesn't really get that hot. EXCEPT this last weekend. We had an all time high record setting temperature for this time of year at [are you ready?] 73 degrees. Yes, that's seventy-three degrees. You have heard me complain before about the heat, but, man, it was warm.)

Anyway, here's the table:

Pat fell in love with this nifty acrylic napkin ring after seeing it in "Southern Lady" Magazine

Pat used a Fiesta Paprika Dinner Plate, Ivory Luncheon Plate, and Periwinkle Salad Plate

Can you believe it? The VW Beetle is almost the same color as the Dinner Plate.

Tea light candles are pumpkin color

With this color scheme in mind.......

Pat chose this napkin - it coordinates perfectly with the surf boards

One last look
Where it came from:
Round Jute Placemat - Pier 1
Flatware - "Everyday" by Reed & Barton from Bed, Bath, and Beyond
Dishware - Fiesta by Homer Laughlin from Replacements, Macy's, and eBay
Napkin - Handmade by Pat
Beer Stein - Dollar Store
Clear Votive Holders - Bed, Bath, and Beyond
Pumpkin-colored Tea Light Candles - Pier 1
VW Beetle - Ross

We will be joining Cuisine Kathleen's "Let's Dish" this Wednesday night for her Summertime Challenge:  http://www.cuisinekathleen.com/

  1. Oh, my goodness! I smiled all the way through your post looking at that adorable VW Beetle. It so reminded me of the 60s and early 70s, when I first learned about surfing and thought those California kids were so cool! Love the plate stack and the cute napkins. Thanks for the trip down memory lane!

  8. Fiesta ware and an orange VW~I can't stand it~two of my favorite things. Growing up I was convinced I would own an orange VW and have a daughter named Penny. I do have a daughter, but her name is Amanda. Thanks for sharing.
