Easter Reading Table

Our family is a family of readers. We have always had books in the house - especially when we were children. One of my favorite books when I was young was The Secret Garden by Frances Hodgson Burnett. Pat - without me noticing - pulled out some of my old books to set this week's table. One was The Secret Garden. Of course, I had to reread it (the glasses on the table are really mine.)

I love this plate - I had the exact same pair of glasses when I was young......

I also love the 1949 movie adaptation of the book that stars Herbert Marshall and Margaret O'Brien. I'm a sucker for old black and white movies......

Where it came from:
Wicker-like Round Place Mat - from Pier 1 three years ago
Charger - inexpensive lacquer charger spray painted to match Bunny's bow
Dinner Plate and Accent Plate - both from Pier 1
Flatware - by Cambridge from Ross several years ago
Beige Napkin - from Tuesday Morning
Glassware - "Samba" by Libby from Ross two years ago
Bunny with Glasses - from Pier 1 last year
Candle Holders - from Art & Old Things (a local antique store)
White Candles - from Bed, Bath, and Beyond
Eggs and Grass - from Michael's

We will be joining the following Blog parties this week:
"Dishing It! & Digging It!" at Rustic & Refined this Sunday:  http://www.rustic-refined.com/

  2. My wife discovered your blog recently and just raves about your ideas! She loves the "Bunny with Glasses" plate. Is it available anywhere? We are in the wilds of Indiana, so internet shopping is handy! Thanks!

    1. Sorry - I just had to reply....talk about "the wilds of Indiana" we live in a very remote part of California. Right now, every road out of the county is either closed or down to one lane controlled traffic at certain times. Internet shopping is the only way to shop sometimes. We have a cousin who moved to your state to get out of the noise of California. He loves it. It sounds like a beautiful place to live.

    2. Hi Pat and Katie! This is Thad's wife,Tina replying. We ordered the Bunny plates from Pier 1. I am looking forward to making Easter special. Yes, Indiana is a nice place to live. We definitely have 4 distinct seasons. There are flat fields of corn, soy beans and some wheat in the area where we live. In the southern part of the state there are hills that are wooded and just spectacular. Indianapolis is a wonderful, clean city about 70 miles SW of us. Now, I must tell you,I have a lot of dishes! Not nearly the collection that you have, but a lot. You know, by the time you are 60 you have collected and inherited many things. I strive to keep it organized. I don't know how I discovered your blog. I had a bad case of bronchitis this winter and while spending quiet time, I found it and was instantly hooked. You inspired me to really look at my china/dishes/collectibles in a new way. I have also collected tablecloths and many, many napkins over the years. This was once a really cheap, fun flea market hobby. No one wanted to launder and iron these treasures! Now, because of your lovely hand made napkins, I am trying my hand at making some napkins for July 4th and also for Derby Day (Kentucky Derby). I have enjoyed learning fancy napkin folds and usually did not use napkin rings, but, again, your work has inspired me to try this and make some of my own as well. I love to set a nice table. My husband's Aunt once told me, "Don't let it bother you if others don't compliment your tables. Do it FOR YOURSELF!" and that is certainly what a Table For One encourages all to do--make things nice--for yourself! I love your blog and enjoy hearing about your area of California and your "Dish Adventures" Your new Hoosier friend, Tina Reynolds
