Hawaiian Tablescapes

This week's theme started with a little male Hula dancer.....many, many years ago, when friends went to Hawaii on vacation, they asked me if I wanted anything from there. Naturally, I flippantly said "Can you bring me back a little Hawaiian?" and they did just that. So, for years, tucked away in my curio was this cute guy. Not quite what I had in mind - but he fits into today's Hawaiian tablescape theme just fine.

To start the tables, Pat used the same placemat for each setting and my Hawaiian "guy." Then she used inexpensive plates, flatware, glasses and napkins to give each table a different look and feel.

The unifying elements:
This flowery placemat was purchased at Bed, Bath and Beyond recently

Kane (male or man) Hula Dancer - my "guy"

Now, the details of each table:

Flamingo and Lemongrass:

A simple fold for this great napkin ring and brown napkin

This is a Flamingo pink Fiestaware luncheon plate

The Lemongrass Fiestaware dinner plate acts as a charger

Pat used colorful lime green flatware by Cambridge to add more color

The five piece place setting

A Dollar Store lime green soup bowl sits on a Lemongrass Fiestaware Bread and Butter plate

Pat used palm trees for a different centerpiece

Pier 1 had this napkin ring in three different colors this season

Of course, the very popular Dollar Store green stemware works well

One last look

Persimmon and Sunflower Yellow:
Over view of the table

Pat just tied this beige napkin from Bed, Bath, and Beyond instead of using a napkin ring

We both love the Persmimmon Fiestaware salad plate

Next is a Lemongrass Luncheon plate from Kohl's (I have no idea why the rim is different on Fiesta luncheon plates from Kohl's. And none of the clerks knew either.)

A Sunflower yellow dinner plate follows

To add another matching color from the placemat, Pat used this Fiestaware Paprika Bread and Butter plate

Bamboo styled flatware is by Cambridge

The five piece place setting

More Dollar Store stemware - this time very simple clear glasses

One last look
Rose and Avacado :

Inexpensive avacado green napkin from Bed, Bath, and Beyond is held by a knot napkin ring

Matte stainless steel flatware is "Vault" by Gourmet Settings

The five piece place setting

One again, stemware is from the Dollar Store

This is a Rose Fiestaware salad plate

A Fiestaware Lemongrass Luncheon plate is next

Sorry, the color is awful but this is an avocado green dinner plate from the Dollar Store

One last look

What an appropriate theme for the day! I didn't even know there was such a thing as a male hula dancer, but I just checked out a bunch of images on Google and sure enough they do exist! I saw those beaded napkin rings in red at our local Pier 1 recently and am thinking I am going to have to go back and get a few. I have been spending way too much time there lately -- I wish they would stop stocking so much great tableware (wait, I don't really mean that)!

  3. Aloha! What a fun idea to do a table for one and then change the setting with different elements. You are very clever! Love the Hawaiian theme.

  4. Yes, yes, and yes! All very creative! I like the hula guy, too. He looks right at home!

It's neat how the Dollar Tree stuff is able to easily coordinate with the Fiesta Ware. It really helps to stretch that tablescaping budget! I really like that Pier 1 napkin ring, too! They always have such eye-catching stuff!!!

Very nice! I hope the weather is mirroring the Hawaiian theme in your neck of the woods! Have a great week!
